The Creator entering into His creation to sacrifice Himself
for His creatures – there is no story like it, but is it just a story, or is it
true?
1.
We need it to be true
It offers something we all need. The message of the angel
that night of Jesus’s birth was, “For there is born to you this day in the city
of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
We might try to fool ourselves that death is the end, or
flatter ourselves by saying that if there’s a heaven we are good enough to go
there, but we know full well that there is eternity to face, and we also know
all too well that we are guilty. Nothing we do can deal with the problem of the
wrong we have done. That’s why we desperately need this story to be true, no
other story has a Saviour.
2.
We should want it to be true
Look at what it says:
a. It shows you are loved immeasurably
God’s love for you was so great He was prepared to make the
ultimate sacrifice and pay an infinite price to provide salvation for you.
b. It states you can be accepted immediately
You don’t have to earn God’s favour. If you want to be
accepted by God, “all you need is need, all you need is nothing.”
c.
It says you can be
blessed immensely
Christ
will save, forgive, satisfy, give new life, make you a child of God, share His
glory with you, and on and on it goes.
3.
We can know it to be true
We don’t have to wonder if this story is fact or fiction.
We can know it’s true for many reasons. Here are just two:
The difference it made
to people then
Jesus’s disciples claimed that He showed Himself alive to
them after His crucifixion. They gave up everything to proclaim Him as the Son
of God, the Saviour of the world. The only thing that could have so transformed
them is that their story is true.
The difference it makes
to people now
Those who respond to the story in repentance and faith find
that their lives are transformed. They know it’s true because it has delivered
on its promises. You can prove it for yourself by receiving the Saviour it
offers.
