Let me tell you about a young man I know who recently was desperate to become a Christian. He had come from atheism to realise the message of the Bible is true, and he knew that he needed to take this step of conversion.

The law of excluded middle
I have noticed over the last wee while that atheists, agnostics and other kinds of unbelievers very often flaunt ignorance as a virtue and they vilify claims of knowledge as arrogance. When evidence of the existence of God is presented they retreat to "I don't know, and it's arrogant for anyone to think they do. We don't know what discoveries might be made that will overturn everything you claim to know." Now the first thing I want to say on this is it is completely disingenuous. They only function that way when the evidence points toward the God of scripture. When anything comes to light that they think supports evolution, undermines scripture or attacks Christianity they jump on it with gusto. Furthermore, when it comes to other theories and conclusions about science and history they are prepared to believe what is well supported evidentially and act accordingly; they don't withhold judgment saying that something could come along and overturn all this - "I don't buy in to this theory, there could be some other explanation..." It shows they aren't guided by reason and evidence at all, despite all their big claims. But, what I want to show here is that when it comes to some of the arguments for Christianity they cannot retreat to some unknown option - there is none. This is where the law of excluded middle comes in.

An asset not a liability
I believe God's way is always the best way, but sometimes it sure doesn't seem like it. I have often thought that the way God revealed Himself in scripture, i.e. various writers over many centuries, recorded in thousands of manuscripts and fragments etc. seems a bit...I dunno...messy. I don't think that way anymore, and I want to tell you why.

New year, new book
Happy (not so) new year. Thanks again to those who keep checking here for new posts. I have some things to write about and hope to get to them soon. In the meantime, here is the link to where my first book can be obtained. Those who have been following this blog know that there was a considerable period in which hell was quite a prominent subject. This is the fruit of that. I think you'll be edified in the faith and fortified against the alternate views that attract many but attack the faith.

There's something wrong with the world, therefore God does / doesn't exist?
Everyone can see it, there is something wrong with the world - the wickedness, the sorrow, the disasters etc. etc. Things should not be this way. This leads many people to conclude that God doesn't exist, but is that the sensible conclusion?

Wind down
Those of you who are regulars on this site will have noticed there hasn't been a lot of activity on it recently. I apologise for this, but things have been very busy, and I simply don't have time to keep adding material to this site. I will post here as time allows and subjects come up that I want to write about, but it won't be very often. However, if there are questions you have you can click the subject labels to see if there is something that helps, or you can email and ask.

Don't speak too soon!
I'm reading through Daniel these mornings and have been quite taken with the structure of the book, (any atheists / unbelievers reading - please stick with this article, it's for you!)

Living in cloud cuckoo land
The cuckoo apparently doesn't build its own nest, but waits for another bird to build one then hijacks it for itself. That's what came to mind when I heard about 'God' being dropped from the Girl Guides' promise recently.
This change was the subject of Nicky Campbell's phone-in show yesterday (19/6/13) on Radio 5 Live. The final call of the show was horrendous, but not as bad as Nicky's response!
I will paste my email I sent to the BBC today. In it you will get the gist of what the caller and Nicky said.

Going to extremes
I was chatting to a man recently who told me he had recently become an atheist. We had a great chat together, but he told me at one stage in the conversation that he thought that God was going to extremes to hide Himself.
